Welcome to Iversen Originals

We are located in San Diego but during the warmer months you’ll also find us in South Dakota.

Please visit often to see the latest projects.

We’re still following our passions: Designing and building motorcycles and cars.

Landspeed racing motorcycles  …and writing novels.

Dave’s car history began on his family’s cattle ranch in Western South Dakota. While many of us were attending bigger elementary schools, Dave was in a one room schoolhouse on the prairie. His mother and sister had a love and interest in horses, but Dave followed in the footsteps of his father and older brothers and fell in love with cars.

Dave’s father was a whiz at the mechanics and Dave learned at an early age to fix what was broken. When it came to the bodywork and finishing, they were all self-taught. The tools they had to use were primitive by today’s standards – one dolly, a body hammer, an arc welder and a hand grinder. Dave completed his first project, the 1929 Model A Roadster, when he was just 14 and he hasn’t stopped building ever since.

Dave learned every aspect of the trade. During his college years, he earned money by custom painting vans and motorcycles. During that time, he started the full restoration of his own 1938 Harley.

In the late 1970s Dave made the move from the Eastern Dakota to Western Dakota where he started and operated the Broken Spoke Saloon in Sturgis, SD. During the off-season of the bar business, he worked on his 1937 Sedan Delivery and the 1938 Lincoln Zephyr. It was also when he turned out the famous 1941 Flathead 3-wheeler.

When Dave sold the bar to Jay Allen and Claudia Collins, he moved to the warm climate of Southern California. He was looking forward to being involved in the car and motorcycle events on the West Coast and continue with building his personal collection of motorcycles and street rods.

Dave continues to do most all of the work himself. He recently started doing projects for other people, so at any time you may find him chopping tops, frenching lights or a dozen other body modifications. He has also completed two cars for customers and is working on the third and fourth.

Dave and Jill  have now formed Iversen Originals. Their current retail line offers some unique streetrod accessories as well as used parts and finished products for sale. We will try to keep making available the exciting and new ideas that Dave and Jill’s minds and hands create.
